Who is Design Homes' biggest competitor? The answer is....existing, old homes. Some old homes have character and are appealing--and they are easier to buy and get moved into quickly. The problem is that they are often not very good. They do not have half of the insulation of a new home, and you get an old water heater, furnace and shingles. The average existing home purchased has a commission paid to the real estate company of $12,000. Should you need to sell within a year, you will probably lose that much. Our experience is that our new homes have an appraised value about $20,000 more than the costs. This means your net worth increases by this much as soon as you get your home. You go through the process and earn it, but you are much better off financially by building a new Design Home. Its easier to buy an existing home, but the new home is a much better investment value.
